The first grade students and teachers would like to Thank Publix of Marathon for a wonderful tour of the store.  The students were able to get the behind the scenes tour. By integrating their Social Studies unit on Economics, they were able to get a better understanding of goods and services. All classes left with a goodie box full of stuff that included :Publix lunch boxes, popcorn, cookies, and bananas.

Veteran Mission

On Sept 11, Stanley Switlik Elementary played host to 55 veterans from the Miami area.  The “First Platoon” is with a veterans support organization called, The Mission Continues. For this September 11th weekend service project, the Nation Parks Service organized a cleanup project in the Dry Tortugas on Sept. 10 and  Switlik School on the 11th.  At Switlik, the First Platoon constructed a raise vegetable garden, sponsored by Gonzalez landscaping, painted the school marquee, trimmed bushes and cleaned up the campus water front. Principal Brett Unke thanked the group for their service both during active duty and in civilian life.  For more information about The Mission Continues, check out their web site.
